News, Tips & More

At our 5th May meeting Robert gave us some tips for iOS and macOS. We discussed recent news including the release of the eBook “Make Something Wonderful” from the Steve Jobs Archive (pictured) and members shared a number of other topics.

macOS and iOS Tips

Robert presented a number of macOS and iOS tips:

Mac

  • System Settings/Sound has the option to play sound effects through a different audio device.
  • Hide the menu bar and/or Dock to free-up screen space. This option is available in the Desktop & Dock section of System Settings.
  • Option click the Date/Time display in the Mac menu bar to instantly turn on Do Not Disturb.
  • Enable a guest account in System Settings/Users & Groups to allow other people to use your Mac without accessing your account (and keep their data and accounts private).

iOS

  • Explore the various options to edit and style photos on the iPhone lock screen.
  • Swipe left on the lock screen to quickly access the camera.
  • Add Low Power Mode to Control Centre for quick access.
  • Home controls in Control Centre can be shown and hidden using an option in Settings/Control Centre.
  • A new action in Shortcuts on iOS 16.4 allows you to require Face ID or a passcode when opening a specific app. Mac Rumors have a good tutorial covering how to set this up.
