At out 19th May meeting, Robert talked about managing different sound output devices on Mac and iOS. We also discussed recent Apple news and members shared tips and topics.

Managing Sound

Robert talked about managing sound output devices on Mac and iOS. Tips he mentioned included:

  • Changing sound output via Control Centre.
  • Adding sound options to the menu bar on Mac.
  • Some applications have their own sound settings such as audio and conferencing apps.
  • Troubleshooting bluetooth connection problems. This article has a good summary of common steps (up to point 6).
  • DaveK nothed that on iOS sound output can be selected from the “now playing” panel in Control Centre.
  • He also noted the balance option in Accessibility->Audio/Visual can be used to adjust the sound level between AirPods.

  • DavidB mentioned that the NHS COVID19 app has now been closed down, it seems it can now be deleted.
  • DavidB mentioned Bart Busschots talking about a serious security flaw in MSI motherboards (used in many Windows computers, Macs are not affected) on episode 940 of the NosillaCast podcast (the security section starts about 35 minutes in).
  • DaveK mentioned using the “LED flash for alerts” in Accessibility->Audio/Visual on iPhone to have a visual indication of alerts using the LED flash.
  • Ben noted that when using Apple Watch to find a lost iPhone you can tap and hold the button to cause the iphone LED to flash.
