At this meeting, held on 30th August Robert shared some iPhone tips and we talked about new features coming to the Notes app in the new OS versions and recent Apple News. Members also shared some other topics.
iPhone Tips
Robert shared some iPhone tips:
- Apple Maps, using a double tap and drag gesture to zoom in and out using one hand.
- Using a 3 finger tap to undo or redo without having to shake the phone.
- Setting up scheduled summaries of notifications.
These tips and several more came from a useful video by Proper Honest Tech on YouTube. Thanks to Liz for recommending this video.
New Notes Features
We talked about some of the new features in the Notes app coming to iOS 18 and macOS Sequoia this autumn.
Apple News
- YouTube videos that claim to vibrate water out of your iPhone speaker actually seem to work.
- Apple offers the option to transfer playlists from Apple Music to YouTube Music. Google also allows YouTube Music users to transfer their playlists to Apple Music.

- DaveK recommended the singer Chloe Adams and her song The Doctor Said.
- Elliott asked about removing a scheduled startup and shutdown on a Mac which had been set on an earlier OS version (this option has been removed from System Settings in Ventura and later OS versions). We found that this can be done using the pmset Terminal command.
- Ben mentioned a friend who was unfortunately in a car accident where his Apple Watch was able to automatically contact the emergency services.
- Alan talked about young siblings being able to unlock the same iPhone using FaceID. DaveK found this article from Apple stating that probability of a false unlock is higher for similar looking twins or siblings and children under 13 (second paragraph of the “Security safeguards” section).
- DavidB passed on his recommendation for Lessons in Chemistry on Apple TV+.
