WWDC 2022

We discussed some of Apple’s announcements from their packed World Wide Developers conference presentation covering mostly iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 at this meeting. The features that caused the most discussion were:

  • iOS lock screen personalisation including styles (photo colour, filter and font), photo shuffle and widgets.
  • Improvements to Messages including the ability to unsend and edit messages.
  • Passkeys in Safari which aims to replace website and app passwords with a more secure alternative. This feature is based on an open standard from the FIDO Aliance, DavidB pointed out they have a summary video on their web site.
  • Sharing safety check to easily audit permissions and quickly revoke access if you feel unsafe.
  • Collaboration improvements and the new Freeform virtual whiteboard app.
  • Multitasking improvements including Stage Manager on M1 iPads.
  • The system requirements for the new OSes which drop support for a number of older devices.
