At our meeting on 29th of October, we discussed the annoucements at Apple’s recent “Unleashed” event including new MacBook Pros and 3rd generation AirPods. We also shared our initial impressions of macOS Monterey and members brought a number of topics and suggestions.
Apple 18th October Event
We discussed the annoucements at Apple’s recent “Unleashed” event including the new MacBook Pro models with M1 Pro and M1 Max chips, the 3rd generation AirPods and new HomePod mini colours. We also mentioned the new cheaper Apple Music Voice tier.
When discussing the “notch” added to the MacBook Pro display, DaveK pointed out these tweets from Linda Dong discussing the notch from a design/developer point of view.
Dave also mentioned the app Forehead that changes the menu bar colours so they blend in with the notch.

macOS Monterey
Members shared their initial impressions on macOS Monterey.
DaveK mentioned some of the new features in Messages including pinning interesting messages (pinned links appear in “Shared with You” in Safari) and replying to particular messages.

- Elliott mentioned some occasional problems accessing web sites in Firefox. Robert suggested disabling extensions and if that didn’t help trying the Firefox Refresh feature.
- Elliott shared the tip that you can easily connect to Bluetooth devices on iOS by tapping and holding on the Bluetooth icon in Control Centre.
- Also in Control Centre, DaveK showed the Air Play option in the playback controls to easily send audio to a different device and the Live Listen option in Hearing.
