The January meeting was held on Friday the 13th and included SEAL’s annual general meeting. After the AGM we helped a new member specify a new Mac for processing and storing photos and Robert demonstrated some new features of macOS Sierra.
During the AGM the Chairman gave reports on the club’s activities and finances during 2016. We then held the committee election which resulted in the existing committee, Robert, Mick, Ben and DavidK being re-elected. Thanks to all the committee members for standing. During the AGM we also had a useful discussion of plans for the coming year.
A Mac for Photography
We had a visitor attending the meeting for the first time who told us he is interested in purchasing a Mac mainly to store and process photos. We had a group discussion covering the pros and cons of different Mac models and storage options. Ben, a professional photographer, was able to give particularly useful advice from his experience. A 5K iMac seemed to suit the visitor’s needs best so we went through the various configuration options and gave advice.
More macOS Sierra Features
macOS Sierra has now been out for a few months now and Robert had some more new features introduced in the update to highlight:
- Picture-in-picture playback for videos including a tip on how to use it with Youtube.
- Tabs in all document-based applications such as Maps and TextEdit. Robert also showed how tabs can be switched on by default in System Preferences.
- Window Alignment, macOS Sierra subtly but effectively helps you align windows with the each other and the edges of the screen.
