The November meeting was held on Friday the 11th. We discussed the month’s Apple news including the announcement of new MacBook Pros with the Touch Bar and Ben demonstrated EverWeb, a web site creation application for the Mac.
The main news item we discussed was Apple’s recent announcement of new MacBook Pro models with the Touch Bar. Members were interested in uses of the Touch Bar and the move to USB-C ports for Thunderbolt 3. We also talked about why some professional users have expressed unhappiness about the new machines.
Our news discussion also covered:
- Apple’s new TV app which aggregates available TV programmes from broadcaster’s apps on iOS and Apple TV (currently only available in the USA).
- The iPod’s 15th anniversary (The Verge has a neat article showing the different models over the years).
- The delay of the wireless AirPods head phones.
Ben demonstrated EverWeb, a web site creation application for the Mac. Ben has previously used iWeb and showed us how EverWeb has similar layout, design and workflow to Apple’s discontinued application. EverWeb is supplied with a number of templates (which it downloads on-demand) but you can also start from scratch and design a unique site (something that not all web design applications allow).
There are a number of included widgets which allow more complex features to be easily added to web pages. Ben showed us how to add a Google map and an image gallery.
EverWeb is available as a stand-alone application or in a bundle with web site hosting provided by the developer, Rage Software. SEAL members can get a 50% discount up to the end of 2016, see our Special Offers page for more details.
DavidB told us that he has been looking for an app to help idenify locations that accept Apple Pay. He mentioned the free app Locator for Apple Pay which looks useful but uses crowd sourced data (information from users about their local area).
